Program Schedule Description
Renal Grand Rounds Every Tuesday
4–5:00 p.m.
(September – June)
Topics include recent work of UCSD faculty, both within the nephrology division and other divisions, invited international faculty and presentations by fellows.
Clinical Conference Every other Tuesday
3–4:00 p.m.
Presentation of interesting or challenging cases by clinical fellows. Discussion involves the entire nephrology division.
Journal Club Every other Tuesday
3–4:00 p.m.
Research and Clinical Fellows present articles of their choice with faculty mentorship. Discussion involves the entire nephrology division.
Fellows Conference Every Tuesday
5–6:00 p.m.
Separated into blocks that cover all aspects of nephrology above and beyond the basics. Includes blocks on renal pathology, glomerular disease, transplant, renal replacement therapies, dialysis access, business of nephrology.
Discussants include nephrology faculty and guest speakers.
Fellows Didactic Conference Every Friday
7–8:00 a.m.
Covers key aspects of nephrology needed to be mastered by all nephrology fellows.
Nuts and Bolts 2–3 times/wk

1st month of fellowship
Primer covering areas from how to use the computer system to writing acute/chronic dialysis orders to simulation exercise in line placement.
Renal Physiology Review 2–3 times/wk

2nd month of fellowship
Reviews basic renal physiology and builds to the level needed for renal fellowship.
Renal Pathology Review 2 times/wk

3rd month of fellowship
Formal review of renal pathophysiology.
Joint Pathology Conference with UCLA Division of Pathology Held at least quarterly Interesting cases from UCSD are discussed with the guide of UCLA renal pathologists who also offer didactics to the fellows.
Doc Talk Weekly
Every Friday
1–2:00 p.m.
Multidisciplinary meeting. Quality Improvement. Held at at Jacobs Medical Center.
